Tire Recycling Project — Turning Waste into Wealth

Project Overview

The United States discards more than 300 million tires every year. Left untreated, these tires become breeding grounds for pests, pose fire hazards, and clog landfills. At DES Green LLC, we operate a closed-loop tire recycling system that converts discarded tires into reusable, revenue-generating products like tire-derived fuel (TDF), rubberized asphalt, crumb rubber, and civil construction aggregates.

Project Scope

North and South Carolina Collection Network
Partnerships with auto dealerships, tire retailers, and municipal dumps
Processing capacity: Over 50,000 tires per month
Integrated logistics for tire pickup and transportation

Recycling Workflow

Recycling Workflow

  1. Collection & Logistics
    • Tires are picked up using in-house fleets or third-party logistics from multiple locations.
    • Batching by type: passenger, truck, agricultural, and industrial tires.
  2. Inspection & Pre-processing
    • Tires are inspected for retreading or resale (if viable).
    • All others are cleared for shredding.
  3. Shredding & Steel Extraction
    • Primary and secondary shredders reduce tires to chips of 2″–4″.
    • Magnetic separators extract steel wires for resale to foundries.
  4. Granulation & Crumbing
    • Chips are ground into fine crumb rubber for use in:
      • Synthetic turfs and playgrounds
      • Molded rubber mats and flooring
      • Asphalt rubber for road construction
  1. Fuel Conversion (TDF)

Tire chips are supplied to cement plants, pulp mills, and utility boilers as a cleaner fuel alternative.

Benefits & Impact

Diverts thousands of tons of tires from landfills
Supports green infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, parks)
Reduces CO₂ emissions compared to traditional disposal
Creates employment in logistics, processing, and sales
